We had a rootin tootin good time during bkP’s Hee Haw and Cowboy Daze. Each little cowpoke had their own time in front of the barn as well as with their siblings. They also were given a treat for being such a good whippersnapper that included a slim jim, raisins, and a granola bar…you know the stuff cowboys need while riding into the sunset. no comments
I went this morning and met with the high school counselor and planned my 14 year olds entire future for her. Oh my. She of course was in there. Her entire face was red and her eyes watery knowing that this was an important step in her life which in turn made my face turn red and eyes water. Like mother like daughter. How in the world at 14 are you suppose to know what direction you want to go to in life? Dont get me wrong I am so thankful that she has these opportunities but it was almost like they wanted to strip her youth from her and make her grow up right then and there on the spot. I also felt like they wanted to strip theater from her schedule so she could squeeze in more classes. She took an ACT explore test earlier in the year and stated that she wanted to go into music, drama, theater, etc and based on her test scores they said she was better suited for biology, physics, and some other careers that I cant even being to try to spell or pronounce. Talk about a dream crusher. I know we have to prepare our youth for their future. But they are for a lack of better word…”youth.” What happened to going to parties, hanging out with the girls, making the circle around town (you know, the one in between Sonic and Piggly Wiggly) and just having someone to talk to on the phone. Although we had pay phones back then. She will be taking college courses and I know Rachel she will skip the parties and hanging out with the girls to study. Ironically there was a poster in the office of the school that stated…Dont dream your life, live your dreams. Im sorry but I am really not sure how I am suppose to feel. show 1 comment

I’m glad I read this! As a future school counselor, knowing that sweet girl’s aspirations (and mom’s too) were discouraged hurts my heart! What ever happened to letting kids be who they dreamed of being and not an aptitude test? Love your sweet family! So we don’t do the Super Bowl thing but we like to use it as an excuse to have “snacks” for supper. I found this recipe on Pinterest and holy smokes it is awesome! Oh yeah I did catch some of Madonna’s performance and I think she looks awesome! 1/2 pound jumbo lump crabmeat, free of shells 2. Combine all of the ingredients in a casserole dish and gently stir until thoroughly mixed. Adjust seasoning to taste. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until lightly golden on top. Serve hot. 3. Serve hot, with hot sauce on the side for those who like it spicy. Makes about 1 1/2 cups Took this recipe originally from this site. They suggested you eat it with saltines but we had ours with tortilla chips. Yum Yum! no comments |
