John Nicholas was born on March 19, 1999. He was diagnosed the morning after he was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries. He had his first heart catheterization when he was 4 days old. His first open heart surgery followed when he was 6 days old. Complications from his first surgery led to a second open heart surgery when he was 6 months old. He was followed closely over the next few years, but a third open heart surgery was necessary when he was 4 years old to give him a new pulmonary valve. John Nicholas did well initially, but in time this valve failed and he also developed an aneurysm in his heart. His parents were told surgery to try to correct this would likely kill him so they waited. When they could wait no longer they met with a new surgeon hoping he could help. In June 2010, John Nicholas received the incredible gift of a donated pulmonary artery and valve. The family will be forever grateful to the family who gave this gift. no comments Please pray for Brittany Kail and her family. She is 26 and has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She started her chemo treatments last week and wanted to do something fun with the kids. She decided to let them shave her head and right behind her was her Mom and Mother in Law. They are such a supportive and precious family. I went home and hugged mine a little tighter after this session. Please keep her husband, Jeremy, her 2 small kids, Jonathan (5), and Katie (4), as well as the rest of her family and friends in your prayers. show 35 comments

Brandi, I am a cancer survivor myself. I went through treatment 10 years ago and afterwards never looked back. My mom died in 1986 from breast cancer and I like to think that some of the experimenting they did with her is helping women survive breast cancer today. Your video brought a tear to my eye, I remember doing the same thing when I knew that my hair was going to fall out anyway. I guess I wanted the diginity of shaving my own head instead of the chemo doing it for me. I know that you will be a survivor and I tell you that once done, don’t look back and don’t live in fear. Godspeed on your journey through this.

Brittany, I know I don’t know you personally but we apparently know a lot of the same people. I watched this video and it took me back 5 yrs ago, to the day my hair started falling out from chemo; the day we shaved my head. I saw the same out pour of emotion on the first pass of the clippers that I had. I never thought I would take it as hard as I did, it was just hair. But it wasn’t just hair, it was something else that the cancer had taken from me and it felt like another point for “team cancer”. I just wanted to let you know that even though cancer may have won the “battle of the hair”, you can still win the war!!! As a older gentlemen said to me the first time I walked into the chemo room, “bald is beautiful”-don’t you forget it!!!
